For the last few years, counties have joined with NACo, Office Depot, and Wal-Mart to challenge each other in an effort to collect the most pledges from county employees and residents to change a light in their home to an energy efficient one. In addition to encouraging the use of Compact Fluorescent Light-bulbs (CFLs), counties are now tasked with ensuring the proper disposal of the CFLs.
In addition to county case studies, this webinar will cover:
·         Costs and benefits to 'changing a light'
·         Available tools and resources for communicating these benefits, including effective outreach efforts and messaging for pledge collection
·         Challenges and solutions to proper disposal of CFLs

The webinar starts on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, EDT.

In this six-part series, visual artists, package designers, landscape architects, interior designers, those working in the emerging field of sustainable design, and others offer their visions of sustainable practices—and ways all of us can incorporate sustainability in our professional and personal lives. You discuss how sustainability is not a checklist of techniques, but an approach to landscaping that uses the lightest possible touch on the land. The two projects highlighted in this presentation illustrate this design process and philosophy. The Oakville project is a 20-acre hillside site overlooking oak woodlands and rolling vineyards. It includes a home designed by architects Herzog and de Meuron. The second garden is a 35-acre landscape near St. Helena, where the gardens blend seamlessly with the rammed-earth house designed by architect Eliot Lee.
