Despite challenges posed by climate change and efforts to address it, the forest products industry largely stands to gain from new opportunities as policies and practices evolve in the drive to combat global warming, the report by the World Resources Institute.
The report by the environmental think tank acknowledges that risks exist, but also found that "climate change presents a potentially game-changing opportunity for the forest products industry."
Key opportunities to consider are new markets and products, competitive advantages in relation to carbon-intensive substitute materials, enhanced forest productivity, increased demand for sustainable forest management, and green preferences, the report said.
