    LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- A United Kingdom government report shows the United Kingdom will fall short of its 2010 goal of cutting carbon dioxide emissions. But it said it is still on track to nearly double its Kyoto target of reducing total greenhouse gases 12.5 percent below 1990 levels by 2012.

The regional collaboration that includes seven U.S. states will launch a cap and trade system in 2010 to reduce emissions 15 percent below 2005 levels by 2020.

Released in June 2006, this downloadable tool helps corporate energy managers to assess the value of emissions reductions and make decisions on financing new projects. The Microsoft Excel-based program that allows energy managers to compare the emissions and financial impacts for a full range of energy-efficient and renewable energy projects. CVAT is designed to be especially useful for multinational corporations with greenhouse gas reduction targets as well as facilities that operate under carbon-limiting government mandates, such as those throughout Europe.

The tool was developed under the auspices of the Climate Northeast Project, a partnership between WRI and a dozen Fortune 500 companies.
