With members across North and South America, AISI plays a strong role in promoting environmental responsibility within the integrated steel industry. It has actively pursued ongoing dialogue on the subject of climate change by hosting meetings, publishing papers, and highlighting the issue at conferences. AISI also plays a significant role in the activities of USAMP, an organization of auto makers and suppliers that examines the environmental impacts of steel and competing materials in automotive applications. AISI sponsors pollution-prevention projects, including the development of environmentally preferable processes that result in toxics and waste reduction. Its Steel Recycling Institute educates solid-waste professionals, government agents, and consumers about steel's potential for infinite recycling.
