Setting the facts straight
I was dismayed to see that a climate-focused news outlet would publish something that perpetuates an environmental myth: "Air travel is a major contributor to climate change." The editors of ClimateBiz should have reminded their readers, before reprinting this message from Mayor Newsom, that according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. commercial airlines contribute just 2 percent of domestic GHG emissions. And globally, aviation accounts for just 3 percent of total GHG emissions and just 2 percent of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The Air Transport Association and its members are highly committed to addressing climate change, and we're glad travelers are too. To learn more about the environmental record and initiatives of the U.S. airline industry, please visit http://www.airlines.org/environmental+affairs/
Major ???
The word "major" in the first sentence is absolutely wrong. Makes one wonder what else is inaccurate in ClimateBiz. This reader suggests the author spend more time checking facts and then print a retraction.
