Washington, DC — Gap, Bank of America, Coors and Shaklee are among eight big-name corporations that earned kudos from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency last week for reducing their carbon footprints.

The agency honored Anheuser-Busch, Bank of America, Coors Brewing Co., Eastman Kodak Co., First Environment Inc., Gap Inc., Roche Group U.S., and Shaklee Corp. for meeting their commitments to the Climate Leaders program, a voluntary private-public partnership aimed at helping companies create climate change strategies.

A whopping 27 additional companies also received a nod for publicly disclosing greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals, including L.L. Bean, Wells Fargo, Sherwin-Williams and Tiffany & Co.

Among the companies to meet their Climate Leaders goals are:

•  Anheuser-Busch set a goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. by 10 percent between 2005 and 2010, and met its goal one year early. Now the beer maker wants to trim its footprint by a further 15 percent by 2013, relative to a 2008 baseline.

•  Bank of America met its goal of cutting U.S. emissions by 13 percent below 2004 levels by 2009.

•  MillerCoors succeeded in reducing its emissions in the U.S. by 20 percent per production index between 2005 and 2010. Its new goal involves cutting emissions 8 percent by 2015, compared to 2008 levels.

•  Eastman Kodak shrank its carbon footprint 20 percent between 2002 and 2008.

•  Consulting firm First Environment achieved “net zero emissions” in 2007 and 2008 through the purchases of renewable energy and carbon offsets.

•  Gap reduced emissions in the U.S. by 20 percent per square foot between 2003 and 2008.

•  Roche Group’s U.S. operations trimmed emissions 18 percent between 2001 and 2010. Its latest goal involves cutting U.S. emissions by 13 percent by 2013.

•  Shaklee achieved net zero emissions in the U.S. between 2006 and 2009 by reducing internal emissions of offsetting the remainder.

The 27 companies recognized for setting GHG goals are Alcatel-Lucent, American Water, Autodesk, Carlisle Construction Materials, ConAgra Foods, FXFOWLE Architects, PC, Greenstar North America, Kohl’s Department Stores, L.L.
